Smooya set to join Chaos EC, according to sources

British AWPer Owen ‘smooya’ Butterfield is preparing to join North American lineup Chaos Esports Club, according to sources close to Rush B Media. The Chaos lineup lost its fifth member last week when Gage ‘Infinite’ Green took to the bench. The team played with coach Alan ‘Shakezullah’ Hardeman for the IEM Katowice Online Qualifiers, where they beat FURIA but fell to Complexity and MIBR before exiting the event.

Smooya’s arrival can quickly prove to be beneficial for both parties. The former BIG AWPer stood out in key games while a part of the majority German roster, including his 1.24 showing at the FACEIT Major. His talent will be a welcome addition to an already tactically sound lineup. In-game leader Joshua ‘steel’ Nissan is known for getting the most out of his players, and will certainly be a catalyst for smooya’s progression.

On an Instagram story, Smooya revealed he would be spending six months in America and today Chaos EC had announced they completed the signing of their fifth player. Smooya is also currently on a flight to the US.

Should smooya join Chaos, the lineup will look like:

Joshua ‘steel’ Nissan

Cameron ‘cam’ Kern

Ben ‘ben1337’ Smith

Maxim ‘wippie’ Shepelev

Owen ‘smooya’ Butterfield

Rush B Media reached out to Chaos via twitter and email for comment, but have not heard back at the time of publishing.
