"It’s been a long time since I’ve believed in the team this much." - Interview With Aizy of North

North played in both EPL and ECS and managed to qualify for the finals of both. How did you find the process in both formats for making it through?

I think they are fine. It’s good to play these qualifiers when it’s on LAN. Of course, it adds a little bit of trouble, which is a lot right now, but I think it’s better that way. All-in-all, I think it’s a better way to do things.

Do you think it’d be better if ECS also moved to LAN?

It’s gonna take a lot of structure. There are a lot of tournaments, especially around this time of year. We have been traveling so much this month and we have to get straight back home to play in the Minor Qualifier as well, so it’s pretty stressful. If you could find a way to do it on LAN then I think it would be better.

You’ve mentioned how you’ve had a lot of travel and there is also a lot of travel coming up. How do you then mentally reset for each tournament you’re going into, especially if one maybe doesn’t go quite to plan?

That’s the hard part of this game; being able to reset after each tournament, after each match, and after each round as well. When you travel so much and things don’t go your way, it’s going to be really stressful to travel a lot. I think it’s easier to travel when you’re winning.

You’ve got valde now taking over the in-game leading role. With all the tournaments that you’re playing with the travel, how have you been able to adapt to him leading and being able to come up with new strategies?

It’s been really limited. We haven’t been practicing that much, but I think we are just keeping it simple and it works out so much more now than it did before. We also have JUGi, so we have a lot of new roles and positions that we had to change and people have to get used to them. We are still in the start-up phase, but I think it’s better this way.

It feels like a long time ago that the old North lineups peeked at top 5 in the world. Do you think that and breaks between tournaments with time to adapt, you can reach those same heights?

Yes, of course, I think we have a really good team right now and everyone is able to contribute a lot to the team in their own ways. It’s been a long time since I’ve believed in the team this much. Of course, I believed in the team before as well, but we have much higher potential right now.

When you have former teammates on Astralis as well as OpTic, do you have that desire to beat them more than the other teams because you’ve got that local rivalry?

I think that us and Astralis will always have a bit of a rivalry. Now OpTic is a team with all old teammates pretty much, so there’s a bit [of rivalry] there as well. We’re just going to focus on ourselves and just do our thing and all those priorities come next.

You faced Vitality quite a bit in Dallas and got the upper hand to then lose it. Are they a team, considering they’re also in your group here, that you’re looking to get revenge on or maybe a bit worried about?

We played them a lot lately, so we know how they play and they know how we play as well. It’s really about who hits on that day. They’re top 4 right now so they’re doing really good and of course, a team to be feared, but if you play like you’re a scared team then you will most likely lose. We’re just gonna show our best play and do our thing and hopefully, it will go our way.

You’ve been a relatively stable roster coming into this in terms of your core. Do you think that this stability will help you in the end? You’ve been on North for a long time and there’s been a lot of changes that have happened.

I don’t know if it will matter if we have a core or not. I think it’s about finding the right place in a team. If there is synergy then great, but if there isn’t then it will drag you down along the way and right now I think we have really good synergy in the team. Everyone wants to play and everyone is really motivated.

Individually, you seem to have done much better with these new players around you. Is it more that they have acted upon you and how you’ve performed or is it more so you looking into yourself and finding that ability.

When we get new players with new blood and new motivation probably helped a lot. I also think our coach addition mithR had helped me a lot as well because I’d sometimes run out and die without the team instead of thinking of my next move a little bit more, so I think that helped me a lot mentally.

Is it strange being the kind of veteran of the team in the sense that you’ve been there the longest compared to everybody else?

I don’t really think about it that much, but it’s quite funny to think about sometimes when watching their style [of play].
