Interview with waterfaLLZ Of Winstrike

I spoke to waterfaLLZ ahead of the Faceit Major Legend stage and discussed with him their goals, what has happened since the previous major, their practice and style and the development of the CIS scene.

I think most people would agree that your run at the last major was one of the most surprising in recent history, coming in to this major do you think that you can replicate the magic of the last major?

Yeah I think we can, really for us nothing has really changed. We didn’t show good results after previous major for half a year, no one believed in us again and said that we didn't deserve our spot here, so nothing has changed. [laughs]

So would you say your goal here is to prove those people wrong again?

Yeah we will try, we will try to do our best and try enjoy playing with each other. Somethings are not going the way we want. After the previous major we had so many problems to solve and we couldn't focus only on the game, we had a really bad mood from some things but the last two weeks were really good with our new organisation Winstrike, who gave us all what we need. Thanks to them, they really helped us to be more confident in ourselves again and we will try to do our best here again and try to surprise everyone.

You touched on this a bit but after the major you seemed to have been struggling online and not attending LANs, what were the reasons behind this?

Many things affected this but playing online games nowadays are so hard for us because the teams we play against are doing more mix styles and individual plays. When we play against them, we are more a team who is watching the tier 1 demos trying to be a team like that and when we join the server, the other teams just are pushing the smokes everywhere and tilting and sometimes after like 5 rounds we are starting to play their game and not ours and we are just losing because of that. We are trying to fix that but with some players it is not going well and we are struggling.

So do you feel that your style will be more suited to playing against the tier 1 teams?

Yeah in the practice for us, it's going much better when we are playing against structured teams and we can read them and understand what they are doing on the map. They are playing with logic and I can understand what they are doing exactly.

You haven’t attended many LAN events so you will still be somewhat of a surprise force at this event, do you think this will benefit you that some teams still will not know what to expect from you?

I don't think all teams will underestimate us again after previous major but I think some will still underestimate us anyway and I think we have something to show against them. We don't practice against tier 1 teams everyday, I don't know why, we just couldn't find anyone to practice with always. So I think we can surprise them with our style of play.

During the Challenger stage, some more “new” CIS teams have been able to display their talents and achieve good results. What's your take on the development of the CIS scene?

We always had many talents in our region, but we haven't always had the organisational support. Vega made 2 changes and they had good preparation and were able to surprise everyone here, me as well. I really like how they play, they are a good team. Spirit have always been a good team in the CIS scene but they always struggle in the important matches, I don't know why, their players couldn't handle the stress I think, and maybe they didn't have some luck like we have. But our region has many talented young players but there is not many LANS to develop them and not many organisations so I believe soon they will be able to show their talents and our region will have more young players.

Lastly, what would be a successful event for you?

Success would be to reach quarter finals again but we are also aiming to not go 0-3 [laughs]

Thanks very much and good luck.

Thank you.
